Johan Larson grew up in a small town in Sweden but moved to tropical Australia at the age of 23 and is now based in Cairns, Queensland.
He has always been drawn to nature and wildlife, both above and under water, which eventually led him to complete a degree in Marine Biology and Zoology. After completing his degree, Johan worked on a number of research projects looking at the effect of increased temperature on a range of vertebrate animal groups in the Wet Tropics of Australia. The more time he spent in nature during his fieldwork, the stronger his passion grew to try and capture the beauty and quirkiness of the natural world with his camera.
Johan especially enjoys the challenge of getting close and personal with wild animals and yet leave them comfortable in his presence so he can capture their natural behaviour. So far, Johan’s photographic work has primarily been focused on the nature and wildlife of the Wet Tropics of Australia.
His images have been published in numerous articles and magazines and are featured on Australia post’s new “Flightless birds” stamp collection.
